This week, Security Journal Americas (SJA) released their first ever podcast. This podcast, moderated by editor-in-chief Victoria Rees, brings together accomplished security professionals to discuss each episode’s them. This inaugural podcast is “Crisis Management in an Age of Permacrisis.”
CrisisLead, LLC founder and CEO Christopher Stitt was included as one of the invited experts sharing his thoughts on the current landscape of crisis management and challenges that face professionals working in this field.
Highlights of Chris’s remarks include:
- The distinction between emergency management and crisis management and the role mitigation plays on lessening scale, scope, and impact of the events;
- The importance of a scalable structure with teams of people who know their primary roles and roles they may need to step into;
- The importance of building a culture of “personal responsibility for personal safety and security” in which each employee has been socialized with the actions and roles they need to take in small, mid-size, and large events;
- How getting the basics right in smaller emergencies contributes to success in larger crises;
- The danger of the two traps organizations fall into – lack of imagination and overconfidence from past success; and,
- The power of storytelling and relationship building with stakeholders to gain buy-in to the crisis and continuity management program through bolstering key business processes.
It is a rich conversation with Michael Gips and RC Miles who each bring their unique perspectives. Give it a listen!
