CrisisLead founder and CEO Christopher Stitt attended the Security 500 conference and the Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) Annual Briefing in early November, 2023. Chris made the most of the opportunity, attending sessions and networking with his peers in the security industry. A couple of key take-aways:
- A public communications plan is a “must include” in any crisis management plan! This part of the plan needs to be exercised too.
- The world continues to increase in volatility, ambiguity, complexity, and uncertainty (VACU). It is even more important to build strong networks of peers to help understand shifting dynamics and benchmark responses.
- The shifts to remote work and back are causing their own disruptions that need to be accounted and planned for to minimize the disruptions.
- Artificial Intelligence is the hottest topic of the year. There are a lot of ways is can be beneficial such as productivity improvements, data insights. But there are also a lot of downsides to be aware of such as accuracy issues, biases in programming, and limited datasets.
Security 500 is hosted by Security Magazine. It’s an exclusive forum “designed to provide security executives, government officials and leaders of industry with vital information on how to elevate their programs while allowing attendees to share their strategies and solutions with other security industry executives.”
The OSAC Annual Briefing is hosted by the U.S. Department of State’s Overseas Security Advisory Council and is limited to full OSAC members. It is governed by Chatham House Rules. to allow for a more open and frank discussion of security trends, concerns, and responses.
