Compliance -> Resilience ->Presilience
Last August at the ASIS International Global Security Exchange (GSX) conference, I serendipitously met Dr. Gav Schneider, CEO of Risk2Solution and creator of the “Presilience” concept. Part of our discussion was about his process to shift security cultures by moving past resilience to Presilience.
While many of you are familiar with the concept of resilience: the ability to flex and make it through a crisis and then get back to business-as-usual. It is the underpinning of business continuity. Presilience is a bit different. It is a mindset and culture change that helps high-performing teams focus on potential disruptions that are on or over the horizon and plot a course not just to make it through the disruption, but to leverage facets of it as a springboard to take the program or business to the next level.
This is not just “bounce back better,” wherein as you are in the midst of a crisis you realize you can leverage it. Presilience is a concerted understanding of the volatile, unstable, complex, ambiguous, and increasingly digitized (VUCAD) era we find ourselves in and building a corporate culture to seek out and prepare for opportunities that may arise.
This is not just a leadership program. It’s a focus on corporate culture change, set on the pillars of people and process, using research-backed methodologies to help people and businesses move from a “as long as we check-the-box we are ok” compliance culture, through a “survive disruption so we can get back to business-as-usual” resilience culture to something greater. Presilience.
One outcome of my initial meeting with Dr. Schneider is that I enrolled in the Institute of Presilience Graduate Diploma in Organizational Presilience, Risk, and High Performance. This is an intensive seven-month course.
My cohort and I just finished our third four-day intensive session. It has been great doing deep dives into research-based science on risk, organizational development, managing culture change, leading through disruptions, decision-making, leadership, influence, and more! Along the way, I have taken the extra steps to certify as a Registered Presilience Practitioner.
